Some people have asked about the difficult-to-interpret image that appears in some of the illustrations in this manual. The screenshots in which it appears are those that include more than one window and so include some of the background image. This image is a photograph of the inside of a smokehouse. It shows fish, held open by skewers, hanging from a drying rack. This smokehouse belonged to the late Mary John, Sr. and is located in Saik'uz (Stony Creek), a Carrier village in British Columbia. Further information about Carrier culture may be found at the Yinka Dene Language Institute.
