Etymology: From Witsuwit'en Likhts'amisyu, which in turn consists of Nisga'a lax̲ts'imilx ‟beaver clan” plus the no longer productive Witsuwit'en plural suffix yu. Nisga'a lax̲ts'imilx is composed of lax̲ ‟people, clan” and ts'imilx ‟beaver”.
