Nak'albunNa•k'al•bunᘇᘀᑊᗪᐣNStuart Lake

Etymology: A compound of Nak'al ‟Mount Pope”, the mountain that overlooks the lake, q.v.,and bun, q.v..

The assertion by Akrigg and Akrigg in British Columbia Place Names (3d edition, 1997, p. 257) that Stuart Lake was ‟known to the Indians as Na-kas-le or Naukazeleh (sometimes shortened to Nak'al)” is incorrect. The first two are attempts at writing Nak'az̲dli, the name of the settlement at the Southeast end of the lake, q.v.. The supposed abbreviation is actually the name of Mount Pope, q.v., after which the lake is named.
