In Carrier territory the weasel usually encountered is the Short-tailed Weasel ( Mustela erminea richardsoni). However this term appears to be applicable as well to the Least Weasel (Mustela rixosa) which is more rarely encountered. Sometimes also referred to as ``ermine'' in English.
